There's The Work, And Then There's the Virgo In Me (Doers and Sayers)

The Virgo in me gives major eyerolls when people don’t follow through with what they said. It’s a sudden annoyance when I have to pick up the pieces and finish the work. Please don’t let me have to give a story on your behalf, because really?
What are excuses?
There’s a sense of incompetence when it comes to someone else having to be the saving grace. Do you really need saving from yourself? How many times do we have to hear your empty promises? It’s now a monologue.
So again, the Virgo in me has a low tolerance for those who can’t read the room. God didn’t bless you with life and your abilities just to be desolate.
My spirit is grieved.
But when I think about the other side of the Virgo in me, I want to see what’s best for everyone. Let’s tap into the potential. If I had a gold star for everyone, I would find something special and unique to make each person encountered feel honored and loved.
Through living and doing, I’ve come to realize that people will show and share their gifts, but society will ignore them and oftentimes place them in a box. Some people are able to escape the box while others seek air. No one wants to be known as the person who never does their work, but we must be truthful and consider if this was the work they were called to….Or was the person told, “This is what you need to be interested in, so do it.”
Everyone doesn’t thrive that way. Society needs to do better and it begins within.
I’ve met people whose role is just to support. Whatever you need within their capacity, they will be there and ready. Not lead, but ready to support. I’ve met people who love to lead but it’s not in every single area, it’s specific because they understand their passion. So why give them an assignment that is completely left field and not even within their thought process to lead? We can’t just talk about what they lack without acknowledging how this isn’t the area they were called to serve and thrive.
My spirit is grieved.
There’s a difference between a fish and turtle, a lion and a rabbit, a dolphin and a frog. Yet when society fails to realize that life and people are not a melting pot but a salad bowl, this becomes the problem as to why we keep bumping our heads, making the same idiocy plans, and expecting new results…how can we learn, grow, and expand if we fail to see the value and unique qualities that come from diversity?
Life and People are like a Salad Bowl, Not a Melting Pot, Plan Accordingly
Doers and Sayers are completely different. But we must watch, listen, and see to understand what strategies work best in everyone finding their place. How can we help ourselves and others accomplish what is seen, felt, and envisioned if we don’t care to learn and understand the need and the strengths? If someone tells you up front what they like or can do, please don’t ignore them. If someone says they want to try something else or grow in another area, please don’t ignore them.
Let the wheat and the tare grow together, it’s not up to you to do the separating, just continue to nurture and allow God to do the rest. It’s not worth it trying to handle what you think will be best, especially amongst people and objectives that you really don’t know. Sometimes our sight is horrible and the aftermath is chaotic.
As a natural born Virgo, I love action-oriented people. Do what you say and say what you mean. If you say you’re reliable then help with getting the work done. If you say that you’re adaptable, can you really move quickly to a sudden change? If you pride yourself on being a born leader, do you run, hide, and make excuses when things go left?
There’s a real difference, see what works best.
Always read the room. See things and people for what they are and not just by what is told to you. Now if everyone is saying the stove is hot, don’t try to see for yourself then cry when they are right. Be wise enough to listen to sound wisdom.
